Soon after COVID-19 catastrophe unfolded in India, the govt. of India declared a nation-wide lockdown on
the 24 th March to contain the spread of
this pandemic. This pushed the already suffering daily wage workers to a deeper crisis. They were struck
far away from home with no work or ration
and hence they were left with no other option but to resort to migration. The JHF members had foreseen
such a situation and devised a very organic
strategy to deal with it in three different phases.
In phase 1 of their action plan, the team started with some ground work and made two lists by surveying-
The first list included
people residing in remote areas where regular accessibility was not possible. They were given ration and
hygiene kits by the JHF team.
For the second list of workers, the JHF took up initiative to feed as many people as possible . They
distributed food packets twice daily.
In the phase 2, the team JHF sanitized all the major public places of the city- including temples,
mosques, gurudwaras, bus stands, roads,
railway stations etc. Not only this the JHF members also spread awareness about the importance of social
distancing
and precautionary measures like wearing masks.
In phase 3, JHF warriors have worked in assisting migrant workers to reach home. They have been
facilitating, around 50 to 100
such migrant workers reaching Jharkhand , with buses to reach their home towns or villages.
JHF has always stood up for the downtrodden and poverty-stricken and has relentlessly worked to combat
this pandemic situation in its own little way.
Demand for oxygen cylinders has drastically shot up since March 2021. Hence, JHF geared up and came forward to supply oxygen cylinders to those in desperate need of it to battle the deadly virus. JHF is trying to fulfil the requirements of people and continue to do the service.
